Gardenstown

Commonly referred to as Gamrie, the village of Gardenstown is surrounded by majestic cliffs and rolling farmland. Clinging to the Moray Firth coast like a limpit on a rock, the irony of “Gardenstown” is that few homes in the village have gardens to speak of! The public areas of the village are an extension of every home and the thriving leisure and fishing harbour is at the heart of the village. The harbour is owned and loved by the village and on lazy Summer days, locals and visitors alike can be seen enjoying a sense of timelessness and community elsewhere lost in our busy lives. Grannies can be seen knitting, whilst mums catch up with friends - keeping one eye on their wetsuit clad offspring diving in to the clear blue harbour waters!

Although the village economy has thrived on the back of an industrious and successful deep-sea fishing industry, fishing from the small harbour is limited to leisure line / lure fishing and some light commercial enterprises. If you're nice to some of the old sea-dogs, you might be lucky enough to get a “fry” of freshly caught cod or mackeral. Look out for MV “Can'le Dodie” with favouritism being shown to occupants of 131 Harbour Road !! If you're really nice to the old boy (a.k.a. Big Booth) you might even blag a mini-cruise to fish, seal watch or maybe even catch a glimpse of Moray Firth dolphins.
